De Fiev Söhns is a mournful folk song from the province of East Friesland in Northwest Germany. Five sons are sent out into the world by their mother to search for their vanished father. Four of them die in various ways while the fifth becomes an outlaw. In the last verse the mother goes to the churchyard and, in her despair, begs God to forgive her sins and accept her into his kingdom. The song is followed by a Bohemian dance melody from the 17th century. Language: East Frisian.
